Hearing
Aids
Did you
know that 90% of hearing losses can be treated with
hearing aids?!
Hearing aid
technology has reached a new level of sophistication
in recent years, offering greater programming flexibility
for better sound clarity and responsiveness.
Manufacturers
At Dr. Daniel R. Schumaier & Associates - Audiologists,
we do not believe that any one manufacturer of hearing
instruments is the best. The selection of hearing aids
depends on what your individual needs. We have accounts
with all major hearing aid companies. All of the products
we use have outstanding quality and are very reputable.
Size
Hearing aids come in a variety of shapes and sizes.
The size of the hearing aids is dictated by the amount
and configuration of the hearing loss. We work with
all sizes - from the behind-the-ear style to the ones
that fit completely -in-the-canal.

Technology
Even though two hearing aids may look similar on the
outside, there can be major differences on the way the
sound is processed on the inside of the hearing aid.
Now there
are hearing aids that can be programmed by a computer.
This enables the audiologist to have more control over
the response of the hearing aids, which tends to make
it sound more natural. Essentially, it allows the audiologist
to tailor the hearing aids to each specific patient's
hearing loss and listening environments. These can come with a push-button that can allow the hearing aid to have more than one program. This can be beneficial for someone who is exposed to a variety of listening environments.
There are
also hearing aids available with multiple microphones.
This has been shown to be the most beneficial technology
for hearing in noisy environments. The front microphone
picks up the sounds the person is facing towards. The
back microphone detects the sounds behind the person
and reduces them so they do not interfere with the sounds
from the front.
Digital is the current buzzword (read more about digital hearing aids). Digital hearing aids provide
more flexibility to allow the audiologist to tailor
the hearing aid to your hearing loss. They also process
sound in a way that is more natural to most hearing
aid wearers.
