Dr. Daniel R. Schumaier
Daniel R. Schumaier received his undergraduate training at Southeast Missouri
State University in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, receiving a BA in Speech
Pathology in 1966.

After two years’ service in the US Army as a medic, he pursued a master’s degree in Audiology from the Central Institute for the Deaf at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. He went on to earn his PhD in Audiology from Michigan State University in 1972.

Dr. Schumaier’s audiology career started in academia when he moved to Johnson City, Tennessee and started the Audiology Program at East Tennessee State University. Two years later he entered private practice, and was one of the first audiologists in the country whose practice extended beyond hearing diagnostics to the actual dispensing of hearing aids, and also to include industrial hearing conservation.

Dr. Schumaier was a founding member of the Audiological Resource Association (ARA), serving as its first president from 1975-1977. He is involved in numerous professional organizations and received AAA’s first Humanitarian Award in 1995.

Dr. Schumaier holds numerous patents, both domestic and foreign, including patents for the Dry & Store conditioning system; TransEar, the bone conduction hearing instrument for single-sided deafness; and Clik, the only premium technology digital hearing aid that is able to be programmed without computers, cables, or software.

He is the President of EarTechnology Corporation, which manufactures and distributes Dry & Store, TransEar, and Clik.

He resides in Elizabethton with his wife, Donna. They enjoy traveling and golf.

Dr. Sarah A. Schumnaier-Campbell

Dr. Sarah A. Schumaier
Dr. Sarah Schumaier has worked in the Johnson City office since 1998 as an audiometric technician and data entry clerk. Dr. Sarah grew up in Elizabethton, TN and graduated from Elizabethton High School in 2000. She received her Bachelor's degree in 2003 from ETSU. As a member of the inaugural Doctorate of Audiology program at ETSU, Dr. Sarah received her Au.D. with honors in 2007. She currently is the President of the Rotary Club of Johnson City, where she is also a Paul Harris Fellow and has served on the Board of Directors for the past 5 years. She has previously served on the Dawn of Hope Foundation Board. She is the Secretary/Treasurer for the Audiological Resource Association. In 2012 she was named the Business Journal’s 40 Under Forty for the Tri-Cities, Tennessee/Virginia. She was the 2015 Audiological Resource Association’s Audiologist of the Year. She has a son, Ben, and dog, Tilly. She enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, and cooking.


Kim, Front Office
Kim is a native of Tennessee. She was born in Kingsport but grew up in Jonesborough. She graduated from Crockett High School in 1985. Kim is the proud mother of three; her oldest daughter is pursuing a doctorate in psychology, her son is grown and works full-time, and her youngest daughter is ready to begin college this coming year. Kim has been with our practice for over 10 years. Her husband Wayne and she enjoy home improvement projects, rescuing animals, and spending time with family.

Dr. Sharon L. Rutledge
Dr. Sharon L. Rutledge returned to the Greeneville Hearing Center after living in North Carolina for the past 15 years. She received her Bachelors and Masters of Science degrees from East Tennessee State University. She started her audiology career working for Dr. Schumaier at the Greeneville Hearing Center in 1995. She earned her Doctorate of Audiology from the University of Florida in 2001. It was at that time her family moved to Greenville , NC where she worked in a private practice. In 2005 she joined East Carolina University as a clinical assistant professor for the Department of Communications Sciences and Disorders. Dr. Rutledge focused on working with adults with hearing disorders, fitting hearing aids and she was the lead audiologist for the Cochlear Implant Program of Eastern North Carolina.

She lives in Gray, TN with her husband Mark and their 3 daughters. She enjoys hiking, boating and playing volleyball.
